Blog No.109: Advert analysis (sixth example)

Example: 6

Colour
The colour of both the text and the image (black and white) makes these conventions visible in front of the orange background. The colours used in this example engages a gender-shared audience in terms of their connotations (death, peace and warmth). Black conveys a masculine colour, white illustrates a feminine colour and orange targets both of these genders.
Images
Only one image is used in this example, it only depicts a record player. The use of the record player could represent the type of music genre this example is advertising: Classics and Pop. Unlike the other examples, this advert doesn't depict an image of the band or the lead singer. This could be a disadvantage. Without an image of the band (it might leave the audience with a mysterious and intriguing feeling) they won't know what they look like.
Font
Although some of the text appear in both lower and upper case, each of them also appear in a large size. All the text is easy for the audience to read since they appear in large sizes. The phrase "Mark Ronson on the run" is depicted in little canted angles, increasing the amount of creativity and fun.
Layout
As always, information is displayed near the bottom of the advert. The audience wants to be mostly intrigued by the image and the names of the musicians. The arrows are also pointing at the names, too; suggesting how they are an important convention in this example. In other words, the audience would want to find out the names of the musicians that created this CD.
Language
Informative language is only used in this example. The language informs the release date and the name of the band. This could be a limitation since there's no other cover lines that makes this example more engaging for the audience to buy.
