Blog No.111: Exported advert

Exported at 300, finalised advert

Instantly the advert captivating, due to the vibrant colour contrasts. I decided to place the silhouette figure emerging from the funk inspired waves. This is to represent the refreshing, unfamiliar and bold genre of indie-funk: a genre that is radically gaining more popularity, with the modern audience. Therefore, the colours specifically are aimed to attract the modern audience, conveying a futuristic and creative concept.

Moreover, there is a range of text used. The first text here, links to the idea of the futuristic yet new genre of indie-funk. My aim for the text was to fuse the indie and funk elements together. The indie elements derives from the unique text itself, with the development of the overlapping, experimental text and bright colouring conveys the funk side.

This text is called DJB Sticky Tape Labels. Ultimately, this creates the look of a modern typewriter. Contrasting with the futuristic text of the masthead, it gives a vintage quality to the advert. The contrasting background with white and black, also aims to attract the audiences attention. Specifically, I chose to this to promote the genre of indie funk, as its niche, to really gain interest.

Additionally, I decided to challenge the conventions of typical funk and indie posters and add a review. In the funk genre it is very rare to have a review, as it is a subjective genre, more artistic than functional. Whereas, indie albums do usually include lots of reviews, as most bands rely on publicity through indie magazines, which their audience will trust and read regularly. I evaluated these examples, and decided to use one review to give an insider into the genre itself, to attract interest. As the poster doesn't include visual images it creates a mysterious atmosphere, which with the review means they can choose to explore the music for the artistic side rather than to buy into the branding of the band.

I used dazed as it wasn't specifically aimed at the indie market, it is an independent media group, specialising in experimental articles and promoting new artists. It is a magazine for a wide market, covering literature, fashion, film and art. Applying to our project its a deluxe multi media set, including a music video, art, advert etc. Therefore, it is suitable for the magazine, Dazed.
