Blog No.101: Digipak initial ideas

Colour
The front cover is going to be fully illustrated in black. However, the colours that are going to be used for the OTRAS the silhouettes are going to be depicted in different colours that would make these conventions visible in front of the black background. Although the silhouettes are also going to be seen in black colours, their outlines will be illustrated in yellow, blue and pink colours. The back cover will use black, yellow and blue colours. The head will be seen in yellow, the circle will be in black and the silhouette's collar will be a blue colour. The colour of the text in front of the silhouette's head will be seen in black coloured fonts which can also make them visible.
Images
We are going to include a barcode and a couple of logos in the back cover. These logos could be a DVD and Recycling logo. The audience will be able to understand that this product is for sale, shows DVD extras and is recyclable. We thought we could include a image on the top right panel that depicts an instrument, a trumpet maybe. The image of a trumpet could be used to represent what music genre OTRAS composes: Jazz, Indie, Pop, etc.
Font
We made some changes to the font of our band name. The name of the font is called Akka (below). It's similar to the one that was voted the most by our audience, instead this type includes another level effect and creativity. All the other text will also appear in capital letters and in a medium sized font so that it's easy to read. Each of the song titles appear in a number of different fonts. This could be linked to the Olly Murs research, where all the songs appear on the front cover but instead ours will be on the back cover.

Layout
Viewers will be able to see the coloured background of which the band name (with the Akka font) is displayed in front of. In other words, the font is see-through. The images that depict tinsel backgrounds are illustrated in different colours. Each of  them will be displayed on each of the panels. The name of the album could also appear on the front cover below the name of the band.

Language
The name for the album is called "Challenge The City". With the use of positive and long vocabulary, it emphasises how this digipak is worth buying for the audience themselves. Each of the songs also imply a certain meaning and connotation. In order to represent the Pop music genre, we won't include any inappropriate language making this product suitable for a younger audience.

In this development, we've included a star rating and a few cover lines. The font of the text is seen in capital letters and in a medium sized font. Although they aren't seen in a bold font, both the size and the use of upper case words are easy enough for the audience to read. These cover lines are also seen black and yellow colours and are displayed in front of black and white highlights. These four colours are based on the colours used for the background. The yellow coloured text is easy to read since it's in front of both the black and white highlights.

Blog No.106: Digipak tray development

Instantly, the audience will recognise the silhouette from the music video. We decided to redevelop the image and add it to the digipack. This was mainly due to maintaining brand recognition, creating connections between our work (brand comfortability, and because the structure of the circle and silhouette is aesthetically pleasing.  The disk tray has been created to mimic look of a record, adding the vintage element of funk music. However, to make this appeal to a modern audience, we have used a purple, out of focus, photo behind as a representation for the bold and innovative present and the development / merging of the genre. Particularly as our band is of the indie-funk genre, a niche yet youthful market, we wanted to address the modern generation. Blog No.69: Tonight in Ouseburn

This morning we filmed the same scenes as last week's (filming me running whilst in the car) however, we've also booked a camera for tonight in town. The scene we're thinking about filming tonight is the scene where I step into my silhouette and leave conformity. It's also going to be filmed at night. All day the silhouette has been trying to get my attention and so it meets the character at night. I'll bring my work costume and bag with me and Charlie said she'll bring the equipment as well. Tommy has planned on driving me and Charlie to Ouseburn and use it for filming track shots. Grib can't make it tonight. Right now we've almost completed both the narrative and the performance. We're doing as much as we can finishing the narrative tonight and the performance on Wednesday. Charlie suggested that the performance area could involve a colourful tinsel-like background. Hopefully, we'll order some tonight.
