Blog No.55: Target audience (forth example)
It's for certain that "Uptown Funk" mostly targets a middle class audience. The upper class won't like this type of music because of the genre and the theme of the music. The video may also target a working class audience (hair dresser and shoe shiner), one problem is that there aren't many other representations of the working class. Overall, I don't think targeting a specific class for music video is important. Although the main character wears a business suit and the narrative is set in town, this doesn't mean that our video targets an upper class. Therefore, Conformity shall not conform to one specific class or area.
Age
This music video could target those between the ages of 15-30. In terms of the costumes / props the actors wear (sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets) this targets a teenage and adult audience as they represent a thug-like appearance.
Gender
Not many female actors appeared in this music video as it focused more on the singer and the band of which they were all male. Overall, the video targets 70% of a male audience and 30% of a female audience due to the focus on the band.
Ethnicity
Throughout the video, Bruno wears a necklace with a Christ symbol representing Christianity. As well as the other examples, targeting all ethnic groups, it's likely that this music video also targets a religious audience. On the other hand, it could mostly target a black ethnic audience due to the ethnicity of the singer and the members of the band.
