Blog No.72: Digipak analysis (second example)

Example: 2

Colour
The colour of the text stand out in front of the blue and white background on both covers. These two colours can also appeal to a gender-shared audience. Black is a masculine colour whereas white is a feminine colour. However, the colour blue is both a masculine and feminine colour. Bright colours are used mostly in this example, connoting peace and friendliness. This could also suggest that this product is suitable for a young audience. We might have to be careful in terms of the amount of colours we're going to include. In other words, it would be difficult for the audience read if the colour of the text and the background are similar.

Images
The image on the front cover creates a direct address with the audience as the singer appears to be looking right at us. Olly doesn't seem to be wearing anything taboo-like (piercings, rings, tattoos, etc) making his appearance look friendly towards the viewer. One limitation with this example is that there's not enough images. True, the singer is depicted on the front cover, but that could make the product have a lack of creativity as it uses the vague idea of having the band appear on the front cover. We thought we could have an image of our singer on the front cover but as a colourful silhouetted version of him. This could present both the narrative (silhouette) and the performance (Grib) in our digipak.

Font
There seems to be compilation of different types of fonts and typography. Every text is using the same font, but some of the words are in a bold and normal font, some letters are in capitals and some are in lower cases. What I also like about the texts is that the font of every text in this digipak is a hand-written type. Having a compilation of different types of font gains quality and creativity, we could use more than one or we could stick to the OTRAS font throughout our product.

Layout
If you could look at the texts on the front cover, you'll see that they don't overlap in front of Olly, they are positioned around him. This can suggest how the image of the singer is an important element of the product. On the back cover, the barcode, music company and website are placed below the song list. We'll include the social media logos and display them on the back cover. Having them being placed on the front cover will differ the digipak's texture.

Language
Similar to the first example, the language is informative and creative. However, song numbers seven and eleven are written in second person. With the use of writing in second person this will allow the audience to be involved or spoken to.
