Blog No.76: Digipak analysis (third example)

Example: 3

Colour
This digipak, like the previous example, uses a colour scheme on the inside and outside. The colours we could use for our colour scheme could be the colours used to illustrate the name of the band. We could have a red background and have the text in illustrated in black colours. It uses both light and dark colours, each of them appealing to a male and female audience. The colours and patterns resemble a kaleidoscope which could represent the diversity of this band. However, the colour used for illustrating the name of the band is difficult for the audience to read since it's depicted in white. On the other hand, the colour that illustrates the song list is easy to read as it uses a black colour. I might have already mentioned this, but we could include a number of Grib's silhouettes, each of them in different colours.

Images
The images used in this example appear to be drawn by hand. The front cover also depicts a musician looking directly at us, creating a relationship with the audience. This product also targets a teenage audience since the musician wears trainers. One limitation with this example is that there's no other images that represent the type of music genre this band plays, apart from the sunglasses. Furthermore, there's no barcode to prove that this product is for sale. If we're planning on using images of Grib's silhouette or my silhouette, the person should face either side of the panel. Having the silhouette looking at the audience would be difficult for them to understand what they're seeing.

Font
Although the band name is hard to see (because of it's colour), the font it uses is big and bold. All the texts are in capital letters but the font size of the songs are too small to read. Furthermore, only one type of font is used, lacking the products creativity. If we want our band name to stand out in front of the red / orange background, we could use a bold font. Furthermore, we could also include black outlines surrounding the letters in order for it to stand out in front of the background.

Layout
The first example aligned their song list in the middle of the panel, the second example had their's on the right side and now this example aligned their list on the right side. They could've placed another image on the left side, next to it. If we're planning on including some images on the back cover, we'll have to display the song list either on the left or right side of the panel. If it was placed in the centre, it would also be difficult to place the images around it.

Language
Unlike the previous example, there's no informative language about this product. For example: there's no website to be found anywhere on this digipak. This could suggest Nameless is a band that targets a niche audience because of it's lack of advertisement. However, that booklet on the top left corner happens to the lyrics of the songs. We could include the lyrics for our song "Apply some Pressure", however, making lyrics for other songs we're going to include would be meaningless in terms of the amount of time we have to complete our digipak.
